An open drawing class for all levels and abilities - The sessions are taught by experienced tutors, in a friendly and informative style. Each week we explore different themes and media. from the local landscape, to botanical, portraits, people and animals! All welcome, materials included but feel free to bring your own. Beginners Guitar 

Wednesdays 19:00 - 20.30 

A weekly stand alone guitar class suitable for complete beginners, or lapsed players who wish to get back into playing. Led by Pete Giles, in a relaxed and informal style, with small groups. You are welcome to just to come to one session, or come along every week to build up your skills - bring your guitar (or ask about borrowing one) Costs £10 per session, booking required.

Also if you require more private one to one tuition feel free to get in touch so we can arrange a convenient time.

ABSTRACT DRAWING

Delve into the world of patterns and abstraction, with artist Bobby Wotnot.

Suitable for all levels of drawing ability, from complete beginners, to those who wish to find a different way to draw and discover a new language. During the session we will be using a combination of exploration, exercises and discussion and finish with a final piece on heavyweight paper.

First we will explore shapes and lines, as a basis for building pattern - then Introduce colour with coloured pencils, markers pens, compressed charcoal etc.In the second hour we will embark on your final drawing, building from the style you have been developing in the first hour.

Sandcast Candle Making

Create beautiful and unique candles, by casting wax into sand molds, then decorate with beach finds such as shells, sea glass or pebbles.

Learn about different wax types, safe working methods, correct wicks and how to colour and fragrance with essential oils.We will be using eco soya pillar wax - The finished candles have a light sand crust and are ideal for indoors or outdoors. You will have time to make about 3 candles of varying sizes.

Natural Soap Making

Make lovely hand made soap bars, using natural ingredients, from the kitchen and garden.

Begin with an organic vegetable melt and pour soap base - then add lots of lovely ingredients to experiment with - including herbs, spices, oats, seaweed, peel and essential oils - Mix and match to create your own favourite recipes.

Get to make several small bars of small soaps, and finish with pretty wrapping.

Learn to Play Guitar in a Day!

Have you always wanted to play guitar, but don't know where to start? Or maybe you have a guitar and started, but have since lapsed playing.

This one day workshop really is an excellent way to kick-start your playing, and lay good foundations for future improvement. With Tutor Pete Giles, who has over 20 years experience teaching adults to play. Pete has developed an easy system to get started, with emphasis on practical skills over theory, using popular tunes, and a combination of individual and group exercises. Taught in small groups, there is plenty of time for individual feedback.

By the end of the day you should be able to:Play 4 chords, Understand how to read 'guitar tabs'. Have an insight into the principles of tuning Play a complete song all the way through! If you need to borrow a guitar please ask.

Decoupage is the art of collaging items with cut paper images - a technique that can be used to update old furniture, and decorate small items.

We will provide a square Palm plate, 25 x 25 cm for you to decorate.

During the workshop, gain tips and techniques you need to get started:

PAINTING PARTY!

Spend a fun, creative and sociable evening with Barnoon Workshop, at the Western Hotel in St Ives.  We provide you with a painting project (tba), suitable for all. Whether you are a complete beginner, or experienced painter, you can leave with a lovely painting on an A4 sized canvas, using acrylic paints.

All materials are included, with help and guidance at each step of the project, with artists Zoe Eaton and Bobby Wotnot.  There will also be some fun art games and a peoples prize for the best painting.

FANTASTIC PLASTIC FUSION

Learn how to recycle old plastic carrier bags into a strong, waterproof material.

Plastic bags are cut and fused with a hot iron in layers - to make an A3 sized material, that can be cut and sewn like any other fabric.

We will guide you through effective tips, techniques and design ideas for your fabric.You can then turn your finished material into a clutch bag, phone, pencil/ glasses case, bunting or colourful wall hangings.

We have templates, plastic snap fasteners and sewing machine available to complete your projects. No sewing experience is needed.

£20 adults (kids £10) including materials, but feel free to bring along any interesting or colourful bags.

NATURE RELIEF TILES

Create beautiful art pieces with Plaster of Paris tiles! We will be using natural foraged materials, including plants, seaweed, shells, and seeds - then get creative with your own arrangements.

With Zoe Eaton, learn how to create a mold with your chosen items, and mix Plaster of Paris to cast your mold. The Plaster picks up fantastic details, and makes a lasting durable cast.. You will have time to make 2 tiles - that can be painted later when fully dried.

BEACH TREASURE MOBILES & CHARMS

Create beautiful wall hangings and charms - with beach finds including shells, sea glass, driftwood and plastic.

We will be combining these with beads and wire - drilling and threading and wire wrapping - get creative with added paint or pen markers. Lots of tools and materials on hand to explore.

All materials and tools provided but feel free to bring your own beach finds to personalise them even more. Leave with beautiful wall hangings, mobiles, key rings or charms!
