Would you like to Learn to draw?  Or practise and develop your existing drawing skills?  We offer a set theme each week, with materials provided.  Held in the historic  St Ives Arts Club, these stand alone sessions allow you to drop in to just one session,  or attend on a regular basis.  A social and creative way to start your week!   Theres help and guidance on hand, with  approaches to techniques and chosen media.   Tutors Zoe Eaton,  Pete Giles and occassional guest tutors.

St Ives Sketchbook Journal

Join us for a vibrant and creative event, with Sketchbook Journalling in St Ives.   Discover the benefits of keeping a Sketchbook journal - a fluid method of collecting visual information, combining sketching, collage, and mixed media, 

Get creative inspiration from the stunning gardens, streets  or bustling harbour.  This session is packed with tips and apporaches to capturing what we come across during the sesion. Get to explore a variety of drawing techniques to capture what you  ses.  Explore mixed media including collage, pen, graphite, colour pencils, inks and more.  We provide all the materials you will need - including an A5 sketchbook to fill and keep. Discover the joy of outdoor sketching and create a lasting journal of your time in St Ives.  This event is entirely outdoors,  In case of bad weather, we may have to move indoors, or cancel the event altogether.

Draw Buildings Of St Ives

Join us for a creative exploration of St Ives’ architectural beauty..  Using pens, pencils, colour pencils, and other media, you’ll learn how to depict the charm and character of St Ives’ structures.  With guided exercises and tips from Peter Giles, you’ll create several sketches inspired by the town’s architecture.  Finish the session with a charming collection of your drawings in a sketchbook.   The workshop takes place outdoors, so dress appropriately. In case of very bad weather, we may move indoors.

Experience the charm of St Ives through the medium of watercolors in an engaging, standalone outdoor class led by Zoe Eaton.  Each session takes place  within a short stroll from the gallery. You’ll have the opportunity to create multiple artworks, drawing inspiration from the day’s theme and techniques, which may include landscapes, street scenes,harbour views,  beaches, or botanical subjects. ABSTRACT DRAWING with Peter Giles

Delve into the world of patterns and abstraction, with artist Peter Giles.  Suitable for all levels of drawing ability, from complete beginners, to those who wish to find a different way to draw and discover a new language.

Wild Sketching

  • £30 per person, including  materials 
  • Suitable for adults and accompanied children aged 12 plus
  • Tuesday 28 May  1.30 - 4.30 pm, Tues 9 July , Tues 6 August , 17 September 

Join us for a guided walk and sketching session, along the beautiful coastal path around St Ives.   Capture the stunning scenery, sky, landscapes, fauna and flora that we discover along the way.  Fill a sketchbook using an array of drawing media and techniques. There's plenty of help on hand, whether you are a drawing novice, or an experienced artist.  The session is entirely outdoors with a moderate walk of approximately two miles, and several stops for drawing .

 All materials will be provided including  a sketchbook and use of all materials. It is essential that you dress  for whatever the weather may do - with adequate sun/rain protection, and sturdy footwear.  Final  destination and route is dependant on time of year, weather etc and will be confirmed on booking,

Painting Intuitive Abstracts

Abstract artist, Zoe Eaton shares her approach to  creating  'intuitive' paintings.    We start with  a series of playful and creative exercises, designed to tap into your inner abstract artist,   Explore   improvisational mark making,  found imagery, and using your senses  to develop  ideas.   Experiment with tools and  techniques to get the most from  watercolours, inks and gouache paints and create a variety of study pieces.  These ideas are used to form the basis of your final  painting, using watercolours, inks  or acrylic paint on quality paper or a small canvas board.  To book, message us to reserve your place or see link above.

Colourful Language! Understanding Colour Theory

A fun and hands on workshop  that explores colour theory, for creatives and anyone interested in understanding and applying colour effectively. Artist Zoe Eaton leads this session through practical exercises. and discussion.  Gain insights into colour theory to help with mixing colours  and applying this to your creative practice.

  • Colour Theory  :  Understand the fundamental principles of colour theory. and create a 12-part colour wheel.  Identify the Components of Colour: Hue, Saturation and bias.
  •  Learn how to mix colours effectively using these components. Quickly get the colour you want every time, without wasting materials!   
  • Application Of Colour: Investigate how colours interact with each other and explore concepts such as complementary colours, harmonious colours,  
  • Leave the workshop with a notebook full of colour exercises, a colour wheel and recipes for  future reference.

We provide tailor-made sessions suitable for a variety of needs, ranging from individual tutoring to larger group settings, ideal for private events, family gatherings, educational institutions, and corporate team-building activities. Additionally, we offer the convenience of coming to your location (e,g, holiday let, workplace, school ) within the local area.

SUBJECT  CHOICES

Water Colour Painting  / Zoe Eaton    Gain tips and approaches in using watercolours to capture the beauty of  this lovely medium.  Choose  your   subject from:  landscape / seascape / plants  gardens or still life. Finish with several studies and a finished painting on quality watercolour papers.

Landscape Plein Air in Acrylic Paint  /   

Enjoy the immediacy or working outdoors!  Capture the views   by painting with acrylics on canvas board.   We provide detailed guidance every step of the way.   We venture outdoors to take preliminary photos and sketches, and then creatie the paitning.  If weather is not great, we can  move indoors to complete the artwork. You’ll receive assistance with composition, color mixing, mastering paint and brush techniques, creating a base layer, and putting the final touches on your creation.

Paint An Abstract Work of Art

Draw upon the innovative styles of St Ives’ modernist abstract artists  to forge your unique abstract pieces.  Begin by creating a paper collage, to explore ideas, color and composition.  Use your collage as a basis for your final art work on  canvas board,  or high-quality paper  using watercolours, gouache or acrylic paints.  A lovely session for all ages.

 Mixed Media Sketching  with Peter Giles 

A fun and relaxed sketching the beautiful surroundings - Explore a variety of drawing techniques to  capture what you see - we make several sketches of outdoor scenes or indoor surrounds - from local scenes, buildings, plants gardens, and discover the joy of drawing from direct observation.  We work outdoors, or move indoors if weather dictates.   Leave with a sketchbook or several  works on paper.
